Path Forward
Legislation passed during the 2008 special and regular legislative sessions have accomplished the better part of the first three items of the Blueprint Agenda - adopting the nation’s best ethics laws, preparing students for a lifetime of success and developing the skilled workforce we need. Blueprint is totally committed to complete the remaining items on its agenda.
Education
Funding for LA 4 (Pre-K) expansion
Additional High School Redesign initiatives
Workforce Development
Establish "Centers of Excellence" to meet industry demand in key sectors
Health Care
Redirect state funds from facilities to people/Customized care for the uninsured at the regional level: A basic redesign of our health care provider safety net for the uninsured that better utilizes public and private providers and engages local leaders and health care providers to help determine the future of uninsured care in their region.
Allow LSU to focus on high-quality medical education and research: Focus LSU’s health care mandate to providing medical education, conducting research and offering specialized patient care in no more than four academic medical centers.
Expand coverage for low-income parents: Leverage (3 to 1) available federal dollars to shrink the state’s uninsured population.
Maximize existing federal funds for medical education: Continue to expand the current trend of LSU utilizing community hospitals and primary care training sites to train our future doctors.
Transportation
Additional sustained funding for both the Transportation Trust Fund and Transportation Mobility Fund
Coastal
Continue to ensure implementation of the Master Plan
We will not be able to finish the job without your support and help. To those of you who engaged with us, we say "thank you" and ask you to continue the push. To others, we ask you to consider the remaining task ahead and to make your voice heard. This is your chance to help reform Louisiana.
In addition to finishing the job, Blueprint’s Board of Trustees is also beginning to consider other reform items to build upon the accomplishments so far. We are beginning to research additional ideas and topics and anticipate conducting meetings around the state before the end of 2008 to collect citizen input.
Together, we will succeed.
